Installing WorkNC Dental CAD-CAM and a Roland DWX-50 is a wise decision for dental laboratory Ciarsolo

Looking for quality & flexibility

WorkNC Dental, combined with the Roland DWX-50 5-axis milling machine, has proved to be an ideal solution for the Spanish dental laboratory Ciarsolo.

Ciarsolo had already installed a dental CAD-CAM system and milling machines, but chose to implement WorkNC Dental and the Roland DWX-50 from Spanish partner Iddentic to improve production efficiency and optimize the quality of the implants it produces.

Mikel Ciarsolo, Managing Director says, “Our previous software had some serious limitations and lacked versatility. By contrast, WorkNC Dental and the Roland DWX-50 is a 100% open system which enables us to operate exactly as we want to.” The company evaluated several alternatives before choosing WorkNC Dental. He continues, “It was clear that the solution had to be WorkNC Dental because of Sescoi’s extensive machining experience and the way in which the software has been designed specifically for the manufacture of dental prostheses.”

Easy machining of all types of prosthetic material

WorkNC Dental’s Implantology module imports the scanned data defining the bridge, crown or implant, and manages the abutments from a library of designs. The model is then manipulated to detect the margin line and the orientation of each implant. It then automatically nests the prostheses to make best use of the material and adds pins for support during machining. WorkNC Dental’s optimized machining wizards are tailored to each type of prosthetic material including zirconia, wax, chrome cobalt, titanium and PMMA.

The software automatically generate 3+2 and full 5-axis toolpaths to ensure that the prosthesis is completely machined, including any undercuts, paying particular attention to the margin line and the surface finish to maximize customer satisfaction levels. Mikel Ciarsolo adds, “The software allows us to machine prosthetic structures with no CAM knowledge, which save us a considerable amount of time and eliminates potential problems. The Roland DWX-50 is a powerful machine, and when coupled with the ease of use and reliability of WorkNC Dental, provides us with an ideal solution.”

Revolutionizing production methods

Using WorkNC Dental and the Roland DWX-50 has completely revolutionized production methods at the Ciarsolo laboratories. Mikel Ciarsolo says, “Not only have we improved our productivity and quality, but we have also saved time and taken total control of our production processes. Previously, we had to subcontract milling operations, but now we can machine the prosthetic structures ourselves, allowing us to offer more competitive prices. Thanks to simultaneous 5-axis machining we can now machine implants in record time and ensure optimal quality, something we could not do before.

The solution provided by Iddentic combines the best of the WorkNC Dental software with the best of the Roland DWX-50, and you see the advantages straight away. From importing an STL file to sending it for machining, the process is easy and clear. Machining is optimized to reduce manufacturing times and increase tool life, without compromising on quality. Furthermore, the automatic tool changing on the Roland DWX-50 combined with the reliable and safe toolpaths produced by WorkNC Dental allows us to run the machine unmanned.”

Fast, efficient local support

The support provided by Iddentic and Roland DG Iberia, both located in Barcelona, has been an important factor for Ciarsolo. “Support from companies located in Spain gives us great peace of mind as we get fast and efficient after sales service. The technical support and advice has been highly professional at all times, enabling us to start milling the same day the equipment was installed.” He concludes, “We trust the system completely and we program and machine prostheses on it every day. Not only are we more competitive through the optimization of manufacturing times and material usage, but we have also increased our range of products thanks to the open nature of the system. The biggest benefit for us is the ease of use and the very high quality prostheses we can now produce. It has, without doubt, been a very wise decision.”
